Nothing can stop Samai
Meet Samai. She works hard and doesn’t give up easily, no matter what is thrown her way. She lives in a regional area of Cambodia with her husband and two children. She loves the colour red.
Before participating in Good Return’s CAFE initiative, Samai and her family were struggling to make ends meet. They had rice fields but couldn’t afford a cow so they had to rent one to plant rice. Without any financial knowledge, Samai and her family took multiple high-interest loans because they didn’t understand how to make the right financial decisions for their situation.
Samai’s life was thrown into disarray when her husband had a motorcycle accident. Because he couldn’t work, the family’s income was reduced significantly and everyday was a struggle. They were also finding it hard to repay their loans.
After completing the CAFE initiative, Samai is confident in using financial products, like loans, responsibly. She learned how to shop around for the right financial service provider, how to not borrow above her capabilities and how to keep track of her money.
Today, Samai has two separate savings tins – one for an emergency, like her husband’s accident, and another to save for more pigs and, one day, maybe some cows.
She is ecstatic that each day isn’t a financial struggle anymore, and she loves that she can teach her children the valuable financial skills that she wasn’t taught. She feels confident for what the future may bring and is excited her children can stay in school, so they will have access to better opportunities.
Samai is one example of the 50,000 people whose lives have been transformed after gaining important financial skills from Good Return’s financial training program.
